Well, John...I do feel foryouafter reading yourproblems with tryin to access
tarnover with your Windows machine. Still I must relate to you in all honesty
- I just accessed tarnover again with no problems using both of the following
methods:
Using my grin.net acct. to connect...
(A) plain old Fetch on my Apple PPC for the ftp and Netscape for the http
access - boom got em both at the same time in less than 2 seconds and didn't
get knocked off either - until I disconnected myself.
and
(B) Using my AOL acct. and their own ftp connection mode - got on tarnover by
ftp with the same efficiency, speed and stability. While still connected by
AOL's ftp mode - I used the AOL web broswer and got on tarnover via http also -
same efficiency, speed and stability. Both connections remained just fine
until I disconnected myself.
My conclusion and solution for you: Get an acct. on AOL and give it a try.
PC or Mac - AOL is just fine for my needs with the above. Perhaps your
IP (swbell.net) is what's giving you problems with your connecting needs.
Perhaps it's that with Windows - perhaps not - who know!!
I honestly don't know - as I don't have an acct. with swbell.net - nor do I use
(or ever intend using) a PC machine to connect to the Net by any method or OS.
For me it's Apple (Mac PPC) - AOL and grin.net or nothing!
Here's a though for you to consider. Rubywand has an acct.with swbell.net and
uses a PC to connect to all of the Apple2 sites by ftp and/or http. Perhaps he
could help you solve the problem of why you seem to have so much trouble with
it all.
Cheers,
Tom
PS: If you really need CD's of Ground, Tarnover, etc. I have them all and
certainly could make private arrangements with you to provide them to you.
Just let me know. I'm sure we couldwork somethingout for such needs.
