Am I to believe that you don't get what the obsolescence meant in that press
release was about? It only meant that Apple won't be supplying replacement
parts for the products listed as obsolete/vintage. It has nothing to do with
how "useful" something is now. Quadra 700s and the first Laserwriters are on
the list too. Are they still useful? Of course. Apple merely said to get
hold of Pre Owned Electronics instead of bugging them if you break an
obsolete or vintage product.

It doesn't take much thinking to figure out that in that context, the '98
designation of the IIgs as obsolete meant the ROM 0/01 and the one a few
days back meant the ROM 3. That undoubtedly is linked to the legal require-
ment of supporting products for a certain time after they discontinue their
production. But if you want to derive some giddy glee from it to the effect
of "gee, Apple has to keep saying IIgses are obsolete, yuk yuk" I guess
go ahead.
