The sad truth is, at that point vendors simply did not
care enough about new hardware for the II series. As
for the Mac, Apple had it's own methods and had very
little interest in maintaining compatibility with any
thing related to the MS Pc. For those who remember,
Apple was very anti MS in that era. I believe they
thought it would ruin their Mac's 'appliance' image
if they were to keep compatibility with the PC.
