It is ok because the lobotomy is reversable.  You rewire the
UniDisk 3.5 to bypass the on-board controller, but the
controller is not removed or damaged.  Should you want
to sell or use the drive on a IIc later, you can reconnect
the CPU in the drive and it would be as good as new.
