Fatal problem with Apple II?

I have a '78 Apple II that, at some point in the distant past, had its
disk controller card removed and reinserted while the system was on. 
Ever since then, the machine has of course not worked properly (fails to
look at the floppy upon boot-up [with Applesoft card installed],
characters sometimes don't correspond to keys, etc.).  Is there anything
at all I can do short of junking it?  The machine was in mint shape
otherwise.
