Using an RGB monitor (non-IIgs) on a IIgs

I've got a pretty old laptop, and on its back it has a 9-pin RGB in
port. Would it be possible to use this monitor as a replacement to
the standard monitor that comes with a IIgs? I've been toying with
the idea of making a portable system, and using an LCD screen would be
a great asset.
