That would not help, not against Microsoft. They don't care whether you or
anyone registers an extension. Or whether you take a copyright on it. Or
if you have a law passed that says only you are entitled to that
extension.
If Microsoft think they can use it, they will. And the rest of the world
meekly follows Microsoft, allowing them to set a new de-facto standard.
And then when you complain, they will not listen to you, for you are small
and they are big and they don't care about you.
The best thing that can happen is they'll buy your silence with a couple
of million bucks. And who would want that?
