Re: Accelerating Laser, but which one? NoSlot Clock Chip?
Well, that's good news. I have a couple of plain 128's coming in the mail (one
in good shape, one not), and I'm waiting for an 128EX or EX/2 to go on sale
cheap for the memory card.
If I needed to use a 3.5 drive on the Focus-toting Laser (say to run a program
on a 3.5 or to download to a floppy for a Mac or IBM computer to use), will
one of the two switches on the bottom allow a 3.5 to be used by giving up the
extended memory?
Does the IIc/+ also use slot 5 for extended memory cards?

--p.s. I have my New Year's hat ready for the club meeting. The paper had a
Y2K compliant party hat pattern and I've decorated mine with copies of Apple
IIe, Nibble and Applied Engineering stickers and pins.

You know, I've been thinking about this. Unlike the
128EX/2, the plain 128 can address the slot as slot 7
based on two switches you can flip on the bottom of
the Laser under the metal door. You'll have to give
up 3.5 drives, but that's not a big deal if you already
have a Focus in the slot. Thus, you should be able
to autoboot a Focus equipped plain Laser 128 after
all. ;-)
Besides, you need slot 5 clear because the internal
1MB memory is also addressed as slot 5.
Basically, to use the external slot, you either have to
give up 1MB memory expansion (slot 5) or 3.5 drives
(slot 7). Since you plan to use 1MB expansion, the
external slot should be assigned to slot 7. >>
