Chris,
For an Apple ][ plus;
Slot 0 - Either a 16K RAM Card or Integer Basic Firmware Card.
Slot 1 - A parallel or serial printer card.
Slot 2 - A serial card for a modem.
Slot 3 - An 80 column card.
Slot 4 - Mouse card or sound card.
Slot 5 - 3.5 disk controller or alternate spot for a sound card.
Sometimes a hard disk or 2nd Disk ][ controller.
Slot 6 - Disk ][ controller.
Slot 7 - Hard disk or a 2nd Disk ][ controller.
I believe that the only slot that is special is slot 0. All other
slots are identical and thus any card will work in any slot. However
some software was written to expect certain card in specific slots.
