Yes, the HFS FST is very buggy, especially when deleting files. You may
already have destroyed the disk permanently.
What is it exactly what you want to do? Erase everything? Can't you just
reformat the disk using your Mac? (Don't use the Mac Finder to erase ZIP
disks by the way, use the Iomega app.)

Hm, freeze, right? That's a bit odd, because I would expect the Mac to
either want to initialize the disk, or not notice it at all (i.e. ignore
it). You sure there's nothing wrong with the ZIP drive?
