Ok, it's been MANY MANY moons ago since I ran a GBBS board, and I will admit 
that my memory on some of the stuff is unclear (though I can't wait to get my 
old backups of the board that I used to run out of storage to at least play 
around with the software again), but here it goes...

The GBBS system that I ran actually ran on an Apple //+ system with a 16K 
memory expansion card (to bring it to 64K of RAM), 2 disk II drives, and 1 
Apple Profile 5 meg hard drive (GOD those were the days) back around from 
about 1985 to 1987.  I did quite a bit of modification to the system that I 
ran, but I believe that I am seeing something that is sparking an old memory. 

I do remember at one time we had tried to set an Apple //e that was in the 
same room (the one that I did the programming for the system on before 
transferring it over to the main system) as a remote terminal rather than 
using the "Console" mode on the machine running the system via a null-modem 
cable and we never could get it to work correctly. GBBS was always looking for 
that "RING" signal from the modem to tell it to answer the line.  

I don't remember all of the details, as that particular 2 years of my life was 
somewhat sketchy except for the programming part of the board and the fun we 
used to have with it.  Not sure if that will help, but the discussion of the 
GBBS system (which was a FANTASTIC BBS program at the time) sure does bring 
back a lot of very fond memories!
