The "cap" you're talking about came on every grey 3.5 drive when it was
new. The one I got bundled with my IIgs and the second drive I got later
on had 'em. If you need to use the daisy chain port, you just pop off the
cap. Unlike most people apparently did, I kept the caps from mine. When
I got a superdrive, I put one of the caps back on since it's the only
floppy connected to the box.

The beige 800Ks with model# M0130 have the cable going directly to the
connector on the drive mech, while grey 3.5s have a daisy chain card in
between. The card runs the in use light and allows the eject button to
activate the drive's eject geartrain, among other things.
