Pretty hard to verify at this date unless you know the original
purchaser. An Apple II motherboard in a hand made or third party case
in itself wouldn't be proof of anything.
I once picked up an Apple II plus motherboard fastened to a piece of
plywood with third party power supply, keyboard and no case.
On the opposite end, a little over a year ago, I picked up what was
purported to be an early Apple II but was actually a clone with an
Apple II badge on the case and an Apple power supply. I was a little
disappointed but still I got a badge, power supply, oddball disk
controller and a working motherboard as a source of chips.
