It is not reliable.  The Mac seems to have problems with
making ProDOS disks, especially bootable ProDOS disks.
Some users may disagree, but I've sent IIGS system
disks to users so they can read and write Mac HFS disks
on the IIGS instead of trying to get the Mac to read and
write ProDOS disks and they've always been happy.

Do you have ShrinkIt! on the IIGS at all?  If not, check on
the ground ftp server:

ftp://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/apple2/

One of the folders here is labelled "Mac" and inside the
Mac folder is a binhexed file of ShrinkIt!.  This is a
DiskCopy disk you can extract on your Mac and run
on the IIGS.  This will get you ShrinkIt! for the IIGS.

I can email you an .shk file containing a System 5.0.4
boot disk with the HFS FST installed.  This will let the
IIGS format, read, and write Mac HFS 800k disks.

With IIGS System 5.0.4 with the HFS FST installed and
ShrinkIt! for the IIGS, you can then simply save any
.shk file on an 800k Mac formatted HFS disk, take it to
the IIGS, and extract it there with ShrinkIt!
