Not sure if i'm the sysop mentioned above who had a bbs working with an ms
dos machine and
apple // bbs software or not...in that my board never went down..and i'm
using futurevision/metal 4.0xev on
1 // gs bbs cpu and a 2nd // gs cpu as a second door off my www site..but
here is my 2c worth

1) if you like the looks of my metal/fv 4.0xev bbs pkg (an evolution of gbbs
i think) which is freeware
 i can give you a shk exact copy of my bbs on a hd or for download off my
site and you can change the
 name and keep the enhancements (40 plus games etc)... that would be an easy
quick way to get up
 a // gs bbs.

 2) if you want to run it off the net..i use major bbs/worldgroup bbs pkg
with internet connection software
     ..i have seen pkgs of this software that run on msdos machine on ebay
for between 30 and 100 bucks
      depending on options....that you could use as a connection to the
internet..works well for my site

       I also have a door program ($15) to register i found that allows
dialout option via serial or modem
       to a second system (in your case the gbbs or metal/fv pkg) that works
nicely. Essentially to get this
       to all work you have the msdos major/wg bbs or mac or whatever setup
as inet bbs and then
       you simply serially connect the // gs system to the setup and put it
up as a menu command on
       the main bbs screen...again you can see this by telneting into my

       or www.lost-gonzo.com

3) on the news groups a re-release of a y2k ready proline is also available
that also could be used for
    the above..it is an apple // bbs pkg that has some inet
connections....but in my view just get a wg/mbbs
    startup 2line ver wg1.0 or wg2.0 for 50 bucks ( i may even have someone
with a pkg) and set it up
    as the main menu..with options to hit the apple // bbs of your choice
that way...you could also on the
    msdos beast have menu commands to cd changers/usenet msg bases etc not
commonly avail to the
    apple // bbs pkg..as well as running door games such as tw2002, legend
of the red dragon etc
    this may sound like blasphemy to apple // users and bbs types..but it
was the only way i could figure
   out in 1994 how to get my single line fv/metal 4.0xev bbs pkg on my gs to
be multiline...ie i cheated
    and made it a door off the msdos machine...

4) now if i can just get that sider 10meg and the old apple // + with my
original 1983 applenet software
    (on two crammed with files 140k disks zowie) with its real klingon asci
text file pics and/or its state
    of the art kermit download features (don't think ymodem/zmodem invented
yet)....i think it had 6
    menu choices total...now if i can ever get around to getting that back
up...i'll have everything i ever
    ran ...net accessable....zowie

5) as you can see from the above..i badly need a life!

 anyway...anyone interested check my site out....the system has worked and
given access to my old apple
  // bbs pkgs faithfully since 1994 or so....the 2 gs machines i have as
doors off my main menu are:
   1st gs : on menu fv/ap2 ...is fv/metal 4.0xev  on the 2nd gs: on menu
tpro/ap2 is tpro Role Playing Game
    bbs 4.2f modified...which is essentially a large role playing game with
bbs built around it

    anyway...for you old timers you could get on and play planet bashers,
spacer quest etc

    i have instant access for telnet 2hrs a day or 1hr a call..i have a
16node tradewars 2002 game server
    legend of red dragon and prob 90 plus door games etc on two ms dos slave
machines to boot

   did i mention i need a life?

anyway feel free to check it out...file areas etc...any guestions or help i
can give out just ask..would be nice
to have more then one old apple // bbs system accessable via the net or the
web besides myself...they
add a nice historical perspective to the whole thing..not to mention they
never crash ..unlike my isp or my server!
