That's right.  The Apple Bus slots were not proprietary
(they are used in Apple clones like the Laser 128 series
...Apple challenged Laser and lost with regards to the
ROM, not the bus).  But neither is the PCI slots now
used in Macs.  They are the same standard as used in
the PC.

Personally, I do not like Intel's Slot 1 standard because
it IS proprietary.  Intel is not letting the other processor
manufacturers in on the action.

Socket 5 and Socket 7, I liked.  I also like the fact that
AMD's new Athlon chip uses the same standard as
DEC workstation processors (called Slot A).  It is an
open standard.

AMD's Athlon blows away anything Intel currently has
to offer!

AMD's 486 chips were more overclockable than Intel's.
In fact, there is a refrigerated system that's AMD
endorsed that allows the K6-III to be significantly
overclocked.  There are plans to combine the system
with the Athlon for eventual gigahertz performance!
