It is the way serial is implemented for AppleTalk. The IIGS
and Mac serial chips support an asynchronous 230k mode
that's much higher than the chip's normal 57.6k
synchronous maximum. While many PC serial ports can
match that high speed of 230k, they do so in the normal
synchronous fashion so cannot work with AppleTalk.
