Some sort of mass storage will be useful for the IIgs while running IIgs
software.  (Of course, using the IIgs as a glorified IIe is also very
desirable.)  Hard drives are one way to accomplish this (my suggesting
is using SCSI, that way you can share drives with your Macs).

AppleShare is okay as well.  You can create an AppleTalk boot diskette on
a 3.5" floppy then store all of your software on your Mac.  This will work
with personal FileShare (ie. System 7.x's file sharing).  AppleShare 3.0 is
simply required to boot your Apple IIgs over the network.
