ROM version 1 will run all the IIGS programs out there.
It is ROM version 0 you are thinking of.  Version 0
cannot run most IIGS software.

Your IIGS is fine.  In fact, it could very well be a
ROM 0 that was upgraded.  If so, it is already a IIGS
with an upgraded ROM.  ;-)  Apple provided the
upgrade free until a few years ago actually.
