There are a number of ways to use a cable modem with your Apple II.
Probably the most common is to set up your own "ISP" using a machine
running some form or Unix. This will give you a shell account that
you can connect to using a regular communications program and a
null-modem cable. You can even set it up to work with SLIP or PPP via
Marinetti.

I sometimes use a program called TCPtoSerial under Windows 95 on my
Pentium II to connect my IIgs to Delphi as well. This is a shareware
program that will make a connection through your cable modem to an
internet site and relay any data it receives from that site to a
serial port and take any data from the serial port and send it to the
internet site. If I connect my IIgs running Spectrum to my Pentium II
through a null-modem cable and tell TCPtoSerial to connect to
delphi.com on port 23 (the telnet port), I can log onto Delphi through
my cable modem connection.

In the future, if the MacIP link layer for Marinetti gets released, we
will also be able to us an AppleTalk connection from our IIgs' to a
Mac running gateway software such as IPNetRouter to connect to the net
via cable modem. This should result in the fastest connection speeds
and be the best and most useful way to connect to the internet from
our IIgs' unless someone manages to create an ethernet card for the
Apple IIs.
