Re: MS-DOS Safe-Mode in Windows NT possible?
Jon Bettenct:
"Is there a way to get to the _real_ MS-DOS in Windows NT? Beleive it or
not, you can get tired of Virtual Dos Machine windows (especially when
low-level calls won't work).
I've tried holding down a function key (I think it was F8). I've tried
CTRL-ALT-DEL in the middle of the boot process (just results in garbage
on the screen).
Why does NT completely override MS-DOS? According to the help file and
the shut down dialog box, there isn't any Safe-Mode. But why not? I need
a way to get into the REAL DOS! The SAFE-MODE DOS! I NEED THE REAL
DOS!!!"
WinNT has no MS-DOS mode. It doesn't have MS-DOS. That Command Prompt
icon that is in your Start/Programs is just a WinNT command prompt, not
the MS-DOS command prompt. You cannot run MS-DOS programs too well on
it.
And there is no safe mode either.
Try finding a WinNT specific newsgroup. They might have more info on
this.
