I've tried it. It does not work. The Zip Chip expects
external clocking at 1Mhz but the Laser's CPU
socket clocks the CPU at 3.6Mhz. It'll work for
several seconds if you run the EX/2 in "1Mhz
mode" but then it'll crash. That's because the
Laser derives "1Mhz" by dividing 3.6Mhz by 4
resulting in 0.9Mhz. Not close enough.
You might be able to speed up the Laser with
a 14Mhz 65C02 from WDC (yes, they make
'02s in 14Mhz too, not just '816s), but I don't
want to attempt to desolder the crystal. Also,
the Laser needs a DIP package 65C02. WDC
sells PLCC ones now.
