I didn't say I was using a one-page document. These were real tests, with a
real document 6-8 pages long. I timed each one of them carefully, and when
there appeared to be no speed difference, I chalked it up to the fact that it
was text printing and not printing from a IIGS-style program. One of the
parallel printers took a little bit longer overall because it did a little more
chugging and gurgling as it alerted itself.
I didn't mean to start a fuss over this, it was just something I noticed, and
then forgot about because it didn't seem important.
One thing newcomers should realize is that if you only use Classic AppleWorks,
ProSel 8 or 16, and other text-based programs (as I do), no external driver of
any kind is needed on a IIGS, //e, or //c. The drivers for most printers are
built-in, or they use the printer's ascii interface. You can use either serial
or parallel. The program's internal settings may be different for each, but no
additional software is needed. That has not always been clear, in my opinion.
