Re: Happy 13th Birthday to the Apple IIgs

I think what Supertimer is trying to get at is that even though there's
a ROM 01 and ROM 03 on the IIGS, the ROM 03, in a general sense, really
isn't any different than a ROM 01. I mean, you could make arguments
that ROM 03 has made improvements over ROM 01, but I don't believe it's
measurable enough of a difference to say that a ROM 03 system is QUITE
different from a ROM 01 system. Having a bigger ROM and more RAM on the
logic board doesn't make enough of a difference to categorize a ROM 03
system as a completely separate system.

On the other side, I can make an argument that a IIc is QUITE different
from a IIc+. For starters, the IIc+ can run an Apple 3.5 Drive, is much
faster, and has extended features like ADB. Even though technically the
logic board on a IIc+ is the same general design as the IIc, there's
enough of a difference to say that the IIc+ is, indeed, a different
system. Therefore, the IIc+ should be considered the last of the Apple
II line.

If you look at the Macintosh Powerbook line, the same type of changes
are going on, yet we indeed distinguish a Powerbook 140 and Powerbook
160 as completely different models, and not say that a Powerbook 160 is
a variant of a 140.
