No, it wouldn't work.  The 6510 is a 6502 with some special added
hardware which results in memory mapped registers at locations 0 and 1,
if I remember right.

The Apple II expects these locations to be RAM, so quite a lot of
software would fail to work if you put a 6510 in there.

I don't know what the extra features did, but I doubt they would be
significant enough to justify the incompatibility.
