Absolutely. It'll run like a charm for accessing data CDs.
For accessing audio CDs, you need to install the RamFAST
SCSI-2 Media Controller drivers and the Media Control new
Desk Accessory. I'm not sure of the exact URL, but I
believe it is on the ground ftp server somewhere:

ftp://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/apple2/apple16/

Actually, 2x speed CD-ROMs are idea for the IIGS. Fast
enough to not be annoying, but cheap enough to be deals.

The following sources sell CD-ROM titles for th IIGS:

http://www.sequential.com/

http://www.crl.com/~joko

In all, there are somewhere between two to three dozen
IIGS CD-ROMs available.

You can also use Mac TrueType font collections and
various graphics archive CD-ROMs on the IIGS with the
right software.
