Hardware Question -- Apple II+ & IIGS

Hi,

I've card that goes into an Apple II+ or IIe and has a connection that
goes off somewhere on the right of the board where there prongs of a
male plug sticking up.  If I don't connect this wire to that prong the
board doesn't work, I just tried to install it in a IIgs but I don't
know what that plug does and when I try to connect it up to either of
the two plugs on the IIgs that look the same, it doesn't work (a couple
of places keep it from turning on even).

Anybody have an idea as to what I mean and what I could do to get the
board working on the IIgs?
