It sounds like from the ZDNet article[1] that there was something to work
around, suggesting that something was done that disabled G4 upgrades and
that it had to be subverted somehow to get it to work.

There's another rumor now that Apple will release a new firmware update
that will remove the restriction.  So far no reference is available.  My
trust is already shattered and I'll wait to hear the results others have
before I apply it to my system.
