I'm still waiting for even a G3 upgrade option that's actually made by
Apple. Right now, I'm not counting on Apple producing a G4 upgrade card
for their systems.

The last time I remember Apple selling a piece of hardware that
improves their computers was the 601 upgrade card. Since then, I
haven't seen anyone other than third-party manufacturers make
accelerators for Apple computers. Apple did so well before about
selling improvements, such as the IIe->IIGS upgrade kits, II->IIfx
kits, etc.

I guess by seeing what they've been doing, maybe they'll eventually
make a G4 upgrade card that will be compatible with these firmware
roadblocks. Or maybe they're being like everyone else in the industry
and they'd like you to buy a new Macintosh every years! :(
