Re: What is with these silly monitors



Phew, well I'm going to have to pop down to my electronics store. I'll tell you if I
have any luck when I do.

I just plugged in my monitor again and did some testing. I made an image on my Macintosh
that was an RGB gradient. I made half of the gradient grayscale and outputted the image
as NTSC. The greyscale side produced a smooth gradient on the monitor. The color side
was displayed in B&W also. Some RGB color was apparent when the contrast and brightness
were very low, but the color was a horizontal banding of RGB especially around the green
part of the gradient. The color was not however consistent with the original image. The,
what should have been, color side was made up of a grid of pixels that were very high
and low in intensity

Something like that. And this grid of pixels slowly scrolled up the screen.

That was a very bad description, but it does seem that the color signal could be
overexcited while the B&W signals were displayed flawlessly. The two color adjusting
knobs and the B&W to color switch did nothing noticeable to my eye.

Thanks for your help. I will experiment with reducing video level and get back to the
group with the results.
