But Perry, that's the point.  The Owen's book shows the number
of "INSTALLED USER BASE," not the number at the time of
discontinuance.  Thus, you can't artificially cut off the numbers
until Apple exhausts the units actually manufactured and that
means the ones that were sold until the model was dropped from
the price list.  There is a reason that the units are kept on the
price list longer.  They need to sell the remaining stock (or most
of it).  So, the INSTALLED USER BASE would have continued
to increase for a time after manufacture ceased but the model
was on the price list.

Not every model was like the one where thousands of unsold
units got interred at a landfill.  In most models, the remaining
units entered the user base even after manufacture ceased.
