Since it sounds like the original author has a Macintosh, the same job can be
accomplished with the StuffIt Expander and the DropStuff Expander Pack.  These
can be found on most Macintosh related ftp sites, including UMich and Link
Everything Online (http://www.leo.org, an english link is at the bottom of
this page).
