Okay, I'll take a look.  I installed netatalk with RPM, which usually
does a pretty good job of making sure everything is in place.  As far
as I can tell, the nbprgstr command is sending DDP-protocol packets
to a port on the same machine.  For whatever reason, atalkd either doesn't
get the request or elects not to respond.

A search on altavista, hotbot, and dejanews shows that the messages about
"nbp_rgstr: Connection timed out" are somewhat rare and entirely
mysterious.  Nobody has an explanation for why it happens.
