Not sure if I can agree; I have a friend using a Global Village modem,
and I think it's one of the 8-pin miniDIN ones instead of one with a
separate RS232.  One just has to come up with the right string in
ProTerm to make it work.  I'd have to look and see how his 14.4 is set.

 SC(| I don't think such modems are popular anymore.

Best defense is to get an external RS232 modem, that way one avoids any
hardware specificness that Mac modems and 'Win' modems may give.
