BUMMER!

	I was planning on emailing lafn today and starting my account.  My Apple II
ISP stopped June 28 -- also quoting Y2K as the reason.

	I pushed them a bit and found out that they didn't know whether or not it
would fail (never tested).  I pushed a bit further.  They admitted that many of
their customers had dropped off when they bought computers capable of surfing
the web.  The company was dropping the text-based system to focus all of its
attention on the web marketplace (where it already has a foothold).

	Yours is probably doing the same thing.  

	I started a discussion here a few months ago on this very subject.  Hoping
that we could make use of the over two hundred nodes worldwide that are already
set up for Apple IIs; even use the old graphics-based AppleNet program.  There
was some interest, but not much more.

        I have happily been using my Apple IIc with Proterm for many years to
access the net.  Even though I also have a WinTel computer with a normal GUI
account, I like to use the text-only service for a variety of reasons,
including speed and convenience.
 
        Today I learned that my text-based ISP, the LA Freenet, will no
longer offer their text-based service after the new year.  They said that
the Freenet software is not Y2K compliant.
 
        Does anyone know of any ISP's who have, and will continue to
offer, text-based access to the net?  Please post here, or e-mail me at
