Connecting Apple ][ to external devices...

Hello to all,
In my school I can find old Apple ][ computers sitting around doing
nothing.  Apple computers have ports which can be connected to external
devices.  When I was a student at a N.Y. community college using
assembler language I wrote short programs to activate these ports. You
can attach to these ports external devices. Can you recommend any books
or maybe web sites that deal with this subject?
