Well, we don't think of it as "darn," and in fact some of us worked real hard
to develop it, and are quite taken with it.
AppleWorks 5.1 was developed by Quality Computers (now Scantron Quality
Computers) in 1994 and 1995. Project manager and chief programmer was Randy
Brandt, who was also one of the developers of AppleWorks 3.0. Quality no longer
holds the license to AppleWorks, and does not sell it. The rights belong to
Apple Computer. There are numerous ongoing efforts to get AppleWorks, and other
Apple II programs owned by Apple, released as free.
There is no way to legally buy it. I have a small business which sells
previously owned copies, which are generously dontated by subscribers to my
newsletter. The "pre-owned" program will end on August 1st.
