Re: Pirates of Silicon Valley
It is true that Mac was developing the mac OS before Jobs and co went on their field trip to Xerox
PARC. This was due to the efforts of the Mac's father, a man named Jeff Raskin. Raskin worked (or
was interning, I don't remember which) at PARC at about the time the the GUI project started. He
learned some of the preliminary features and went to Apple soon after it was formed. He was placed
in charge of the original Mac team(1978). From there Apple started to develop their own GUI (Apple's
GUI was being developed while Xerox was essentially finishing theirs off) . It was only later when
Jobs thought that the idea of the GUI was half baked did the engineers go to PARC. There Jobs
changed his mind after seeing the Xerox GUI and allowed the Mac team to go full force. Besides Apple
gave Xerox stock for the visit and most of the PARC employees were working for Apple within a year.
