Or a Vulcan drive. When I was in high school, all of the Apple IIs
were minimally equipped units except the instructor's. His had
the works including a decked out RamFactor and a FingerPrint
interface card with an HP PaintJet printer (which used FAX paper,
if I recall correctly). He got mad when I used up too much of
the paper. ;-)
My guess is that cat.in.the.hat saw a similarly decked out unit
with an internal hard drive.

There was the RamCharger, which provided power to the
RamFactor with the power off. A RamFactor could thus serve
as a pseudo ROM disk.
