Well, check out Cringley's Q&A on PBS at:
<http://www.pbs.org/nerds/qa4.html>
and go down and read Jef Raskin's take on it...this from someone who was
working there at the time.

They may have not have had a working project and there likely wasn't many
people working on it, so yes, they would have been blown away going to
Xerox PARC to look at a working GUI.

Jef Raskin also did his graduate paper on a GUI in 1969.
