Are there any disk image formats for the A2 that support multiple
files? I want to be able to create a disk image of a 32MB partition
directly on the A2 and store the disk image sections on multiple
media. I know removable media and CiderPress make this redundant, but
I still think it's a cool idea. Plus, you could backup a partition to
40 800k floppies, which is somewhat realistic. :)

Do you mean like Shrinkit?http://stason.org/TULARC/pc/apple2/faq/10-002-What-are-ShrinkIt-SHK-f...

ShrinkIt isn't what I'm looking for. I want to make sector-by-sector
copies of the drives, not make a loose file archive.

Then the block copy will only be usable if completely restored
to a contiguous volume--much less useful than a "browseable"
archive of files. Restoring will take as long as backing up.

BTW, back when the only way I had to backup my Vulcan was to 800KB
floppies, it *never* got backed up--way too much work!
