Eric, I tried QFix again and this time my hard drive was okay. It must have
been some other activity which caused my earlier problem.
I patched P8 and then I patched AppleWorks 5.1. I was able to create and save
files containing other characters. I was able to do a save through the main
menu, and I was able to do a quick save, OA-S. I was also able to to a quick
save to the original directory, OA-Ctrl-S. In other words, ALL file saves to
disk worked, not matter how I did it.
I did have a problem when trying to rename the file within AppleWorks 5.1,
using OA-N. It would not permit me to make any change to the active file name
involving a formerly illegal character. I believe the reason for this is
because when your patch to AW 5.1 goes in, it only makes 3 changes to SEG.AW.
It does not go on to make the changes to SEGS SS, DB, and WP. The renaming
routine is located in each of those segments, so I am guessing that that was
what you intended with the patches to SEGS SS,WP, and DB. Can you see any
reason why the AW 5.1 patch would make the 3 patches to SEG.AW (confirmed on
the QFix screen), and then stop, and not go on to patch SEG.SS, WP, and DB
(never confirmed by QFix)?
