As a test, the file CHESSMASTER1.shk was downloaded from Tarnover at
ftp://209.180.253.179/cabi/Games/chessmaster/ under Netscape 4.6 on our PC. It
came in with length= 561,080 bytes.
It turns out that the file is a whole-disk archive and that it has a
Binary II prefix. The prefix was automatically stripped off during transfer to
the IIgs leaving a 560,952-byte file. GS-Shrink unshrinked the file to an 800k
disk with no problem.
Perhaps the Binary II prefix confused a helper application you intended to
handle the .shk file. (Generally, there is no benefit to having a Binary II
prefix on such a file; but, you still run into it from time to time.) Or,
maybe, the fact that it is a whole-disk archive which expects to unshrink to an
800k target disk caused problems.
Otherwise, your browser may need to be told about .shk files-- i.e. you
may need to establish the ".shk" filetype. There is some info about this in the
FAQs at http://home.swbell.net/rubywand/Csa2T2TCOM.html#001 .
