Use one of those SCSI-CF/SD adapters with a 1GB card and it'll be dead
silent.

I've seen quite a number of IDE-CF/SD adapters, but never one for SCSI. Can you post a link?

On a related note, I'm been meaning to look for a combination cable, having
both a D-25 (for external devices) and IDC-50 (for internal devices, more
than one preferred) so I could keep my SCSI drive internal, and at the same
time, attach an external SCSI CDROM/DVDROM device.  Anybody heard of such?

What bus adapter are you using?  Ramfast?  Something else?
