Well, if the IIgs user happens to have Spectrum and they download that
MacBinary version you uploaded, they will end up with an executable
version of GSHK v1.1 as Spectrum can automatically strip MacBinary
headers for you. You just need to tell Spectrum to do so by making
sure the "Strip MacBinary headers" checkbox is checked in the
Settings/Options Menu/Receiving Options... dialog.

By the way, if the self-extracting version of GSHK is in a Binary II
wrapper (.BNY or .BXY filename suffix) then most Apple II
communications programs will also create an executable version of the
self-extracting archive when it is downloaded. Each program is
different in how this is set up so you'll have to check your manuals
on how to do it. In Spectrum it is a checkbox in the same dialog as
the MacBinary one mention above.

Both MacBinary and Binary II preserve the filetype information of a
file which is why this works. There is also no problem doing this
using a ProDOS 8 based program as the self-extracting archive of GSHK
does not have a resource fork. The program that the self-extracting
archive creates does, but that program must be run from GS/OS anyways
so there is no problem with ProDOS 8's difficulty dealing with
extended files.
