I have to apoligize again.  It seems that piece of software that was
making my access to HFS partitions so horribly slow may have also been
affecting my file transfer rates.  Yesterday I did some more
null-modem transfers from my PC to my 8 MHz IIgs and got much better
results than the last time I did this.

I did a normal boot into GS/OS and a normal launch of Spectrum (many
users may be unaware that you can shift-launch Spectrum to avoid
loading the XCMDs) but I did switch the online display from Spectrum
SHR to Spectrum Text to squeeze a little more speed out of the
transfers.

I ended up getting around 4600 cps with a 57600 bps port speed.  Now
if I get my IIgs up to 14 MHz I just might end up getting pretty darn
close to the theoretical maximum throughput of 5760 cps.

Sorry for not checking this before posting but that's the way things
go sometimes.  :)
