Sys 6 is runnable from diskette; but, it is usually something of a chore.
If you have 4MB of RAM, you can 'Flash-load' a good Sys 6 and boot it from a
1.6MB RAM disk. Sys 6 runs fine this way and you'll have enough memory to run
most applications. (SQC used to sell a utility named "FlashBoot" which will let
you create the disks for doing the Flash load. I do not know if FlashBoot is
still available.)

Besides the AOL location mentioned already, you can download the six
shrinked disks for System 6.0.1 plus install info from Apple Cabi.net at

ftp://apple.cabi.net/pub/applegs/System/Sys601INSTALL/
or
http://apple.cabi.net/pub/applegs/System/Sys601INSTALL/

Use GS-ShrinkIt or 8-bit ShrinkIt to uncompress the files to 3.5" diskettes.

Sys 5.0.4 is much easier to handle on a non-hard disk system without a lot
of RAM. You can download a shrinked disk for System 5.0.4 from Apple Cabi.net
at

ftp://apple.cabi.net/pub/applegs/System/
or
http://apple.cabi.net/pub/applegs/System/

The file is SYS504SDK.bin. Use GS-ShrinkIt or 8-bit ShrinkIt to uncompress the
file to a 3.5" diskette. It will boot System 5.0.4.

If you do not have any good way to transfer files from PC to GS, your best
course may be to contact some regular poster here, briefly describe your
system, and request a couple diskettes with Sys 5.0.4 and some utilities to
handle transfers and unShrinking. Expect to pay $3-$5 to cover postage and
materials.
