You do not need to reinstall your old MacOS just to read ProDOS
because the system disk for the IIGS that you are after, System 6.0.1,
includes a module called the HFS FST, which can read and write
Mac HFS disks (800k ones using the double density drive).

Yup. http://www.allelec.com/ Alltech Electronics has System 6.0.1 for
the IIGS on disk for around $10. For $59, they will sell your a hard
disk on a card called the Focus which has System 6.0.1 installed and
a library of freeware and shareware.

The benefit of this is that DSK2FILE is bound to be included in the
library. DSK2FILE is an Apple II utility for making .dsk disk images.

The keyboard may be busted. Try connecting the one from your
Mac. Mac ADB keyboards and mice are still compatible with the
IIGS, which was the first computer to use ADB.

You are going to have to get the system disk. To make images, you
just need to run the DSK2FILE program, a freeware program. I
think it is available at http://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/ the ground ftp
server, the principle ftp server for Apple II software. However,
without the OS and ShrinkIt, you may not be able to unpack the
archive.

Command-Control-Reset (Reset is the big key at the top border
of the keyboard and is equivalent to the keyboard power key on
some Macs).

On the IIGS, the directories show up as folders in Finder and
open/save dialog boxes, so you'd access them same way as on
a Mac.

On the IIc, you'd need to get into BASIC.SYSTEM's command
prompt "]" and use the "prefix" command.

Example, you wanted to open the folder "apple" on your root
volume. Type: PREFIX APPLE and the next time you type
catalog, you'll be cataloging the APPLE directory rather than
the root directory.
