gutting a iigs / enhancing to mac.... need help
whats up everyone? i just wanted to take a second to share my idea of
what i want to do with a iigs, if you have any reason why you think this
might or might not work, or think there will be difficulties that i will
run into, then please contact me. here is my plan:
I recently purchased a powerbook duo 280c, and while i do have the
standard floppy dock, i do not have a full sized dock for it. Since i
have a love for the classic apple II line, i thought it might be
creative to take an old apple iigs (preferably a dead one), clean all of
the contents out of the case, leaving it empty. Then i would creatively
wire it up so i can put the powerbook in the case, close it, and with
the use of the minidock that i can buy later, run all the necessary
wires to the back of the case. I would have to buy a different monitor
than the standard iigs one. I need something that resembles the original
monitor that can do 640x480 at 256 colors. After some research, I have
narrowed it down to the following choices:
Applecolor High Res Monitor '13
Mac Color Display '14
I am not aware of what these monitors look like, so if anyone knows if
they resemble the iigs monitor, then please contact me. Hopefully i
would be able to wire up the scsi, printer, video, ADB etc ports through
the ones (or holes) that are already built into the iigs. I would also
keep the original keyboard and mouse. If this works out, i would have a
iigs that can browse the internet, and run os 8.1 (hehe, even though
its a duo280c at heart). I just hope that the powerbook can physically
fit into the iigs case, it is a small powerbook, but its been so long
since i have played on a iigs, i have forgotten how big they are.
Well if anyone has any comments, or knows of someone that has done
something similar, then please get back with me. Thanks!
