You can find lots of IIgs and 8-bit Apple II software on the net-- the GS
can run both kinds. (BTW, Apple, Inc. is pretty near the bottom of the list of
places to look.) The major Apple II software sites are ...

Ground Apple2 U. Iowa- the largest Apple II archive and home site
of the Csa2 Apple II FAQs; maintains II/IIgs games, utilities,
HC/HS stacks, music files, ..., and information plus
separate collections including the AOL A2 archives
  ftp://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/apple2/

Ground Mirrors- sites which mirror Ground
  Apple Cabi.net Ground Mirror ftp://apple.cabi.net/pub/ground/

Asimov- #1 archive of Apple II 8-bit games and utilities in
emulator DSK and file formats; plus emulators and emu info
  ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/

Asimov Mirrors- sites which mirror Asimov
  Apple Cabi.net Asimov Mirror ftp://apple.cabi.net/pub/apple_II/
  Australia Aarnet Mirror ftp://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/apple_II/
  Georgia Mirror ftp://mirror.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/

Apple Cabi.net- #1 archive of IIgs game, system, etc. software;
maintains System 6.0.1 files as well as being a major Apple II
information and game hints/cracks resource and FAQs mirror.
  ftp://apple.cabi.net/pub/applegs/

Apple2 Caltech- large collection of II/IIgs games and utilities
  ftp://apple2.caltech.edu/pub/apple2/

GS WorldView 'zine- II/IIgs applications articles, games, utilities,
A2-2000 archive, and links; home site for 1WSW

Uni-kl.de Apple2 U. Kaiserslautern- II/IIgs games, utilities, and
  emulator wares

USA2WUG- Apple II Help & FAQs Collective; Csa2 FAQs mirror

     True.

The PC can not produce floppies for IIgs 5.25" or 3.5" drives. The usual
way to transfer files from PC to Apple II is a direct NULL modem connection.

Like you say, you need some software on Apple II disks to get going. A good
way to get it is to contact a local Apple II users group or email a regular
poster on this newsgroup. Expect to pay a few dollars for materials and postage.

Good luck with your new 'computer science project'!
